Let’s just pack up and go to Fort Davis for a weekend of hiking, exploring, learning, shopping, cooler climate, mountain scenery, and fun! This is a weekend for families, friends, or individuals and intended to be flexible. You may arrive anytime during the weekend and stay in a hotel or camp/RV in one of the campgrounds/RV sites. Of course, folks can also come for the day. Please arrange for your own lodging which is available in Fort Davis, Alpine, or Marfa, but don’t wait to reserve . . . There are many activities to choose from: Davis Mountains State Park, Fort Davis National Historic Site, Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center & Botanical Gardens, McDonald’s Observatory, Madera Canyon Hiking Trail, Prude Ranch, Balmorhea State Park, and lots more! Most state and national parks require mask wearing and reservations.
Recommended supplies for outdoor activities: wide brimmed hat, water, sunscreen, close-toed shoes with wide tread, mosquito repellent, walking stick
McDonald Observatory: guided tours including a star party Friday and Saturday nights.
Davis Mountains State Park: camping, hiking and biking trails, bird watching, nature
Fort Davis National Historical Site: restored calvary post that is open to the public. Masks required for all.
Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center and Botanical Gardens: nature trails, gardens, nature center. Masks required inside nature center
Balmorhea State Park: swimming-purchase day-passes in advance
